Start with words

Text chat gives you a little time to think. It can be the easiest first step when you want to meet someone without turning on a camera or microphone.

Good to know

Text matching is a product mode, but live access rules can change. The matching screen shows what is available to your account.

01

Use the extra seconds well

In text, you can read a reply, decide what you really mean, and answer at a pace that feels comfortable. That is helpful if you are shy, in a noisy place, or using a device where a call would disturb someone nearby. The slower pace does not mean the conversation must be formal. A small, specific opener usually works better than a demand to be entertaining. Try asking what the other person has been listening to this week or what kind of evening they are having, then follow up on the answer rather than jumping to a second unrelated question.

02

Remember what text cannot carry

Tone is easy to misread. A short response can mean distraction, a language difference, an awkward pause or simply a short response. Avoid treating one line as a complete judgment of a stranger. If a joke does not land, clarify it lightly. If the rhythm feels strained, you can change the topic or end the chat politely. Text gives you control over your words, but it cannot prove a person’s identity or intent. Keep private details private and do not follow links you did not expect.

03

Move modes only if you want to

Sometimes a text exchange makes you curious about a voice. That can be a good next step, but it should be a choice rather than a test you have to pass. Voice asks for microphone access; video asks for both camera and microphone access. You can say, “I’d rather keep typing for now,” without justifying the boundary. If the other person insists that you leave the product or turn on a camera to prove yourself, consider ending the conversation. The best mode is the one that lets you participate comfortably and safely.

04

End without disappearing into guilt

Not every chat develops into a friendship. If you want to leave, a simple “Thanks for chatting; I’m going to go now” is enough. You do not owe an extended explanation. If a person becomes abusive or pushes for money or sensitive information, skip the courtesy script and use the available report or block controls. Leaving is one of the core ways you keep control of a one-to-one interaction.
