Mobile setup · practical guide

A phone makes chat easy to open and easy to expose.

A small screen, mobile data, battery limits and a handheld camera change what a comfortable conversation needs.

SHORT ANSWER

Use your normal updated browser, stabilize the phone, check the camera frame, prefer a reliable network, use headphones for voice, and keep enough battery to leave or contact help.

Device and browser behaviour varies. This page gives a setup sequence rather than compatibility guarantees.

Open cleanly

Leave embedded browsers when permissions fail

A link opened inside a social or messaging app may use an embedded browser with different sign-in, cookie and device behaviour. If matching or permission prompts do not work, copy the address into Safari, Chrome or Firefox rather than granting repeated access.

Rotate the phone only after checking how the frame changes. Locking orientation can prevent an accidental wide view of the room. Use Do Not Disturb when notification banners could reveal private names or message previews.

  • Open somatch.me in the normal browser.
  • Close other camera and call apps.
  • Hide sensitive notification previews.
  • Check portrait and landscape framing before joining.

Network and power

Video spends more than text

Video uses more data, battery and processing than voice or text. A warm phone, low battery or weak signal can cause stutter and sudden exits. Choose voice or text when the connection cannot support a stable picture.

Public Wi-Fi may be congested and is a poor place for sensitive account or payment work. Mobile data can be more private but may carry cost or caps. The useful choice depends on signal, plan and sensitivity.

Text
Lowest data and battery demand; best fallback.
Voice
Moderate demand; headphones improve privacy and echo.
Video
Highest demand; requires stable framing and connection.

Physical setting

The camera moves with you

Do not walk near traffic or through an unfamiliar place while focused on a call. A moving background can reveal a route, building or house number. Sit somewhere you can hear, leave and keep the device secure.

Keep enough battery and connectivity for transport or emergency contact if the chat is part of an offline meeting plan. A long session is not worth losing access to the phone when you need it.
