Permission
A saved block can prevent the prompt
The browser should request microphone access when voice needs it. If no prompt appears, check the permission icon by the address bar and the browser’s saved site settings. Clear the old decision or change this site to Allow, then rejoin.
The operating system may separately block microphone access for the browser. Managed devices can keep that control unavailable. Avoid changing the global default when a site-specific permission is enough.
- 1Reach voice mode
A reading page should not request the microphone.
- 2Check this site
Remove a saved block or grant access for somatch.me.
- 3Check the operating system
Allow the browser application to use the microphone.
Input
The connected device may not be selected
Bluetooth headphones can play sound while the laptop microphone remains selected, or the reverse. Choose the input you intend to use. Check the headset cable, inline mute, keyboard mute and input level.
Use headphones when echo makes your speaker feed back into the microphone. Move away from fans and hard reflective surfaces. If the level meter never moves in the operating system, the problem is below the website.
- No level anywhere
- Check hardware, system permission and selected input.
- Level in system, none in browser
- Check browser site permission and browser input.
- Others hear echo
- Use headphones and reduce speaker volume.
Safe fallback
Use text while the cause is unclear
A failed microphone does not require an unknown extension, screen share or remote-control tool. Close the call, restart the browser and test again. If the issue remains, record the device and browser version for official support.
Text is a complete conversation mode. Choosing it protects the rhythm of the interaction while you resolve audio later.
